9. Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles
Also known as ICBMs commonly, the missiles ate land-based and can travel up to the distance of 3500 miles.
Several countries are now planning to get the hand of these missiles for maintaining their national integrity, however, it was first deployed by Soviet Union in 1958 followed by the United States in 1959. The ICBMs are targeted on a specific location and more precisely on the specific city.
Besides delivering the nuclear weapons these can also carry the biological and chemical weapons. As it was the product of Cold War era, the Soviet Union and United States signed a treaty in 1991 known as Start I treaty to lower the stocks on ICBMs, but they are still used by both the countries.
10. Strategic Defense Initiative
This was developed during the Cold War era by the Reagan’s administration as it wanted to save its nation from the attack of intercontinental missiles by the Soviet Union.
It was a collective space, air and ground based laser system as was also known famously as ‘Star Wars’.
The program got much attention and publicity during its developmental phases, however, nothing significant ever happened.
